BAND BIO

Blues-inspired folk rock with classical influences.
Based in West Yorkshire.

The Homburgs create emotional music that will take you up, down and sideways. Inspired by Johnny Cash, The The, Ennio Morricone and The Waterboys, we mix gypsy folk with blues, classic rock and country. We write original music above the mills and moors of Keighley with chickens looking on.Led by singer/songwriter Jack Allan, we're a rag-tag bunch of musicians from diverse musical backgrounds - from classical music scholars and conservatoire pupils, to self-taught musicians who came together in 2023. Despite our diverse influences, we can't seem to stop making music together! We're releasing our first EPs - Hurricanes in Winter and Walls of Your Mind, recorded at Eiger Studios in Leeds this September.

Preview - "Hurricanes in winter"

In an old mansion house in the mountains of hills of South Wales, a bunch of trainees in their late teens huddle around a fire in a grand hall with blankets and cups of tea. Far away from signal or internet, they only had each other’s stories, jokes, music, poetry and companionship. In this moment John Brown read a poem he had just constructed after being quiet for a while and examining the room. His voice had all ears, including those of the blossoming romance developing on the sofa. Jack got the guitar out and the main chord sequence of the song was born.

Preview - "Walls of your mind"

The upbeat, off-beat walking guitar chords were formulated through the experimentation of a loop pedal during boring evenings at a time of prolific listening of ‘The Gypsy Kings’, The Specials’ & Ennio Morricone. This became the initial basis of the song. However, the theme and lyrics were missing. Turning to the personal poetry book of late Uncle Peter Allan (Lost & Found) a rare glimmer of positivity was found in the poem ‘Walls of your Mind’. The poem depicts the constant mental constraints we all have in our minds. The barriers or ‘walls’ that sometimes keep us safe and comfortable may prevent potential. In another instance this perceived self incarceration may involve depression, addiction, suffering, loneliness & loss. However, the reader/listener is invited to believe in love, bravery, freedom & redemption. As the architects of our own prison, we must be able to break out and be free.
